Clarke Singer, the Mustang’s men’s hockey team’s head coach, won his 250th career game on Saturday Jan. 16 with a 4-2 win over York Lions.
Singer’s Mustangs had a setback Jan. 15 as their 16-game winning streak was snapped in a 6-4 loss to the UOIT Ridgebacks.
But the Mustangs rebounded and now set their sights on a road trip to play Brock in St. Catharines on Jan. 22 and then a rematch at the John Labatt Centre against UOIT on Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, both the men’s and women’s volleyball teams won games, with the women winning in straight sets over Lakehead in Thunder Bay and the men winning a five-set thriller over Wilfrid Laurier in London.
Western’s women’s basketball team hosted a successful Shoot For A Cure game, raising over $3,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
While the Mustangs men lost to Brock, 85-80, despite leading through most of the game, the women came back to defeat the Badgers 76-75 in an overtime barnburner.
The Western women’s hockey teams lost a pair of games, including a shootout loss to Brock, despite taking early leads in both games.
Finally, the Mustangs men’s and women’s curling and track and field teams had strong showings in weekend events. Swimming, squash and wrestling results will be posted online at www.westernmustangs.ca.
