Carol Stephenson
Stephenson received the appointment for “her contributions to the development of our national telecommunications industry and for implementing innovative changes to business school education in Canada.”
“This is one of the highest honours given to Canadians and Carol is more than deserving of this recognition,” says President Amit Chakma.
“Her strong vision for business goes beyond boardroom tables and balance sheets to encompass the vital role business plays in the quality of life in Canada and beyond. Through Carol’s leadership, Ivey has reshaped business education to ensure our next generation of global leaders have the strategic ability to resolve increasingly complex global issues.”
Fred Longstaffe, Provost & Vice President (Academic), also expressed support for the appointment.
“At Western, Carol Stephenson has elevated Ivey to national and international prominence as the institution where the many strands essential to modern business education and research have been woven together into a powerful new way of thinking about the whole system – not only business but also the society in which business operates and the people it affects.
“And she has done so in a quiet, consensus-building fashion that is supportive of collaboration and which creates respect and success for all involved. Hers is an inspirational form of leadership that brings great repute to Ivey, to Western and indeed to the nation.”
Of the 57 new appointees, 25 were named Officers (O.C.) and 32 were named Members (C.M.). These appointments were made on the recommendation of the Advisory Council for the Order of Canada.
Recipients will be invited to accept their insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
