Western Mustangs rookie blue-liner Scott Aarssen was named to the CIS all-rookie team on March 24 at an awards dinner announcing the men’s hockey major awards winners in men’s university hockey.
Aarssen, the former London Knights captain, had a strong season with three goals and 17 assists for 20 points. He was seventh on the Mustangs in points, second amongst defencemen.
A second-year business student in King’s College at The University of Western Ontario, Aarssen was also a member of the OUA West all-rookie team and had a +14 rating.
Aarssen has made the transition to university hockey look easy. He was ranked third in OUA rookie assists with 17.
“Scott has been a tremendous player for us since Day 1,” says head coach Western Mustangs head coach Clarke Singer. “As a rookie, we tried to expand his game a little giving him some offensive responsibilities and he has excelled in that area.”
