It’s Environment Week at Huron University College and several events will be held to promote environmental sustainability and eco-friendly living.
March 1-5 – Students can visit an environmental display posted in the Huron Dining Hall from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The display is aimed at informing and bringing awareness to students about international and local food production systems. If students bring in their own mug to purchase a beverage, they will get 10 cents off the price of their beverage.
March 1 – Join guest speakers for a coffee house and fundraiser for Huron in Ecuador and Honduras, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Huron’s Great Hall.
Listen to guests speak about their experiences and perspectives followed by a question period. Guests include Aaron Lawrence, a Huron alumnus and current Western graduate student; Florine Morrison, owner of VegOut (a restaurant on Richmond Row); and Jeff Pastorius, Huron alumus and owner of On the Move Organics.
Fair trade organic coffee will be available by donation to support Huron and Algoma in Ecuador and other treats will be available to support Huron in Honduras.
March 1-5 – Huron University College has Joined the EnviroWestern’s GROW Project to plant trees with ReForest London Monday, March 1 to Friday, March 5.
Unwanted one-sided white or coloured copy or printer paper (8 1/2 X 11 only) may be discarded into a designated U-TOSS bin. Do not include confidential materials. Bins are currently located in the computer lab and in the main photocopy room.
Once full, Graphic Services will pick the bin and use the paper to create U-TOSS scratch pads which are then made available to Western and Huron campuses. During Environment Week, U-TOSS pads will be available at the information desk, the computer lab, and Huron’s library.
Students are invited to make a donation to Huron and Algoma in Ecuador when picking up a U-TOSS pad. During the rest of the year, donations are forwarded to ReForest London to plant trees in our area.
Visit ReForest London’s website at https://reforestlondon.ca. Help reduce paper waste, save trees and grow new ones.
