Graduate and professional students are being encouraged to complete the 2010 Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey (CGPSS), which provides an opportunity to improve educational experiences.
All graduate and professional school students (excluding MBA) at Western have received an e-mail invitation to complete the survey, which takes about 30 minutes.
Spearheaded by Marty England, the university’s Senior Policy Advisor, the survey was first conducted in 2005 and is designed to gain insight into the experience of students at universities across Canada. This year, more than 125,000 students have been invited to participate.
“Western, along with other universities across the country, is significantly expanding graduate enrollment at this point in time. It’s particularly important that we monitor the quality of the graduate student experience during a period of rapid expansion,” says Linda Miller, Vice-Provost (Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies).
The results will be compared with those from surveys in 2005 and 2007 to gauge progress and continue enhancement of graduate and professional education at Western and across Canada.
Responses from the first two surveys have already helped university leaders in developing better programming in areas such as:
*Professional skills development
*Financial support Research experience
*University resources and student life
Participation in the survey is voluntary, confidential and has no effect on academic status.
