Seven buildings at The University of Western Ontario have been without power this morning since about 10:15 a.m. All of the Ivey HBA classes are cancelled this afternoon due to the outage.
The buildings affected are:
The Richard Ivey School of Business building (including the National Centre for Management Research & Development) Somerville House Thames Hall 3M Centre The Faculty of Law building University College Stevenson-Lawson Building (Stevenson Lawson Addition)
Electricians are on site to identify the cause of the problem. It is uncertain when power is expected to be restored.
It is suspected that a cable fault caused the outage, says Roy Langille, Associate Vice-President of Physical Plant and Capital Planning. The underground cable feeds power to the affected buildings.
The buildings are currently using emergency power.
“As soon they find the fault, they will be able to redirect power to the affected buildings,” he says. “We’re working diligently to get the power on as soon as possible.”
There have been no reports of other classes cancelled in these areas.
