More than 300 students from 55 area high schools will “discover” career possibilities in health sciences Friday during Discovery Days in Health Sciences.
Presented by The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, The University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College, the event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The day begins in the North Campus Building Room 101 with a presentation of “Tale of Two Simulators: Different Paths to Similar Ends,” which looks at 3-D anatomy simulators and CSTAR technology.
They will also participate in hands-on workshops and a careers panel.
Some of the workshop sessions include:
“Organ Donation & Transplantation” – Medical Hall of Fame 2010 inductee and Canada Gairdner Wightman Award winner, Dr. Cal Stiller will be a guest in that workshop; “Spatial Hearing and Auditory Virtual Reality: Hearing in 3D with only two ears” – Session takes place in the National Centre for Audiology in Elborn College; “Medicolegal Death Investigation in Ontario” Participate in a session with 50 students discussing autopsies and postmortem examinations, featuring pathologists Dr. Rick Mann and Dr. Michael Shkrum; “Cardiovascular Pathology” – Students gain an interactive introduction to basic cardiovascular anatomy.
