The 2009 champion Western Mustangs baseball team will hit under the big lights at the Rogers Centre as they take on the best players in Ontario University Athletics on Sunday, May 30.
The fourth annual OUA Baseball All-Star Showcase will take place following the Toronto Blue Jays game against the Baltimore Orioles. The OUA All-Star Showcase, which begins at approximately 5 p.m. is made possible with the help of KR3, Wilson, Pizza Pizza and the Blue Jays.
The Mustangs dominated OUA competition last autumn with a 13-5 regular season record and a 4-0 mark in the playoffs, sweeping the Toronto Varsity Blues and Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks in a pair of best-of-three series to claim the Jason Guindon Memorial Cup for the fourth time in five seasons.
Pitching is a definite strength of the Mustangs, as seen in the 2009 OUA championship series against the Golden Hawks. Western was led by the strong starting pitching of Jordan Townshend and Andrew Bergman. Both had ERAs under two during the regular season and playoffs.
The OUA all-star team will be comprised of student-athletes from the other six schools that compete on the OUA circuit, including Laurier, Toronto, Brock, Guelph, McMaster and Waterloo.
