Paul Davenport, one of Western’s longest-serving presidents; Marlene MacLeish, a renowned expert in space exploration and education; and Thomas Hockin, International Monetary Fund executive director, will receive honorary degrees next month when The University of Western Ontario hosts its 296th Convocation.

Paul Davenport

Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LL.D.)
Davenport served as the ninth Western president for three terms from 1994 to 2009. A strong public advocate of the central role of higher education and fundamental research in the knowledge economy, he was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor by the Government of France in 2001 and appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2002.
Marlene MacLeish

Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LL.D.)
Currently a professor of medical education at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga., MacLeish serves on several national and international professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of science education. MacLeish, a Brescia University College alumna, has served as dean and vice president for students at the Harvard School of Public Health, the City University of New York Medical School and the City College of New York.
The Honourable Thomas Hockin

Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LL.D.)
Hockin, recently named the International Monetary Fund executive director, led the Investment Funds Institute of Canada and the Canadian Institute of Financial Planning from 1994 to 2006. A Western alumnus, Hockin served as a Member of Parliament from 1984 to 1993 and held cabinet positions in both the Brian Mulroney and Kim Campbell governments.
