Mustangs football coach Greg Marshall was named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) coach of the year on today at the OUA Major Awards press conference in Hamilton.

Marshall, winner of his third Dave “Tuffy” Knight award, will go forward as the OUA’s nominee for the CIS coach of the year honour. With the award, he receives a $1,500 cheque towards the program from Centaur products. This is the first time Marshall has won the award with Western.
The last time Marshall won the OUA coach of the year honour (2000), his McMaster Marauders went on to win the Yates Cup, the first of four straight.
“There are great people coaching at Western… and there is continuity with our coaching staff,” says Marshall. “What I do have at Western is good people to work with.”
Marshall adds a great deal of credit also has to go to out-of-season coaching duties, from recruiting to the strength and conditioning work with full-time coach Jeff Watson. He credits his entire coaching team for the award.
As the seventh head coach of the Western Mustangs, Western to four Yates Cup appearances, having won two of those three contests, and going for this third this Saturday in Ottawa. His career regular season record with Western is 24-8.
As a head coach, this will be Marshall’s eighth consecutive Yates Cup appearance, four of those with Western, and four with McMaster from 2000-2003.
