Professor Jeffrey Goldsworthy will deliver the third annual Coxford Lecture entitled “The Limits of Judicial Fidelity to Law,” on Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 5:30 p.m. (Room 38) in the Faculty of Law.
The lecture considers the possibility that judges might sometimes be morally justified in refusing to follow the law.
Professor Goldsworthy holds a Personal Chair at Monash University and is President of the Australian Society of Legal Philosophy and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. He is one of the leading public law scholars and theorists in Australia and is the author of numerous articles and books.
The Coxford Lecture, Western Law’s leading annual public law lecture, was established through a generous gift from Stephen Coxford, Western Law ’77, Vice-Chair of Western’s Board of Governors.
In funding this lecture series, Coxford’s vision was to bring leading international scholars to Western Law annually to address leading public law questions, in order to promote and advance the rule of law. The lectures are published annually in the Canadian Journal of Law and Jurisprudence.
