Art can do so many things: it can evoke emotion, it can tell a story, it can make you think … but can it change your perspective? Africa is one of the most misunderstood continents; Engineers Without Borders wants to change that.
Art Auction 2010 focuses on various people’s perspectives of Africa to challenge the many assumptions made about Africans. Art in a variety of forms – and from a variety of artists – will be displayed at The Arts Project (203 Dundas St.) from Dec. 7-10 (noon to 5 p.m.) for community members to come and experience.
A cocktail reception will be held on Sat., Dec. 11 (6 to 9 p.m.) to wrap up the week of changing perspectives and to finalize bids on the art work. Bidding will only take place on the night of the reception; however, bidding by proxy can be arranged.
All proceeds from this event go towards supporting two short-term (four month) overseas volunteers from the Western EWB chapter and one long term overseas volunteer (one year or more) who will work on development projects in either Ghana, Burkina Faso, Zambia or Malawi.
Engineers Without Borders creates opportunities for rural Africans to create positive change in their lives. By harnessing the skills and creativity of the Canadian engineering sector, we work to find practical solutions to one of the world’s most urgent problems – extreme poverty.
Find out more information on the EWB website or on the Western EWB website. If you would like to purchase tickets to the cocktail reception ($25 in advance/$30 at the door), email Jessica Barker at jbarke3@gmail.com.
