Western professors Tima Bansal and Gordon Osinski are helping explain why Research Matters, a new province-wide campaign by the Council of Ontario Universities (COU) to showcase new stories and ideas emerging from Ontario university research.
Launched this month, the campaign, which will speak to daily issues and reflect the full diversity of university research, will continue through 2012-13 with public events held around the province designed to allow the public to engage directly with researchers.
Bansal and Osinski are part of a promotional video put together to launch the campaign.
“The work of thousands of university researchers in Ontario affect industry, government and community life in a multitude of ways,” said Alastair Summerlee, COU chair and University of Guelph president. “Those stories about how researchers help people build stronger communities, get more out of work and leisure time, and achieve a better quality of life deserve to be told.”
Ontario is a world leading, international hub of research and discovery. The province’s 21 universities, which employ thousands of researchers, make this home to one of the richest, most prestigious, varied and collaborative research environments in the world.
“This campaign will connect more Ontarians directly with researchers and their ideas,” said Bonnie Patterson, COU president and CEO. “Ontarians can rightly take pride in the fascinating and highly diverse research underway here.”
