The Western community is mourning the death of Noah Kishinevsky, 19, a first-year student and resident of Saugeen-Maitland Hall, who was found dead on Monday night following a search by both police and community members.
“This is the most tragic news that any university can deliver,” said Helen Connell, Western Communications and Public Affairs associate vice-president. “The loss of a student affects the entire university. Our community mourns this loss. Our hearts go out to Noah’s family at this most difficult time.”
Kishinevsky, of Newmarket, was reported missing Saturday night as he was leaving his residence on his way to the library at around 8 p.m., carrying a knapsack containing a laptop computer. The search – spread across traditional and social media – continued until Monday when his vehicle was found in an apartment building parking garage on Wonderland Road South.
Police confirmed his body was found in his car, which was filled with a hazardous substance. London Police, London Fire and EMS responded.
In response to this incident, Western is offering counseling and support through its student health services department, the residence life program, and the university’s chaplaincy, as required. Western Hillel, 1192 Richmond St., is offering its counseling and support services as well.
Further details of a memorial or any formal remembrances will be relayed to the community according to the family’s wishes.
