An upcoming conference at Western hopes to unlock the formula for improved science education for today’s – and tomorrow’s – students.
The Western Conference on Science Education, July 9-11, brings faculty, students and educational staff together across disciplines to focus on improvements in postsecondary science education. Although issues in Canadian science will be highlighted, the conference welcomes colleagues working outside the country or outside the traditional disciplines of science.
For attendees and the larger Western community, Tony Bates, researcher, author and president/CEO of Tony Bates Associates Ltd, will deliver a free public lecture, Designing University Teaching for 21stCentury Learners, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 10 McKellar Room, University Community Centre.
Started in 2003, Bates’ company specializes in e-learning and distance education has served more than 40 clients in 25 countries including the Government of Alberta and several Canadian colleges and universities. He has been a Research Associate with Contact North since 2007. He recently completed an e-learning plan for the Justice Institute of British Columbia.
