Western is looking to confirm what many of us already know – that it has the most beautiful campus in the country. The university is once again competing in the upcoming Communities in Bloom contest, a non-profit Canadian organization that aims to improve the overall appearance and visual appeal of the country’s neighbourhoods, parks, open spaces and streets through the imaginative use of flowers, plants and trees.
In 2004, Western took first place honours in the Parks and Grounds category, beating out Alberta’s Banff National Park and Okanagan University College in British Columbia. It was the first time Western had taken part in the competition.
Jim Galbraith, Western’s manager of Grounds Maintenance and Waste Management, encourages staff, faculty and students to help keep the campus clean and really “build up the pride and ownership factor. Results will be announced in October.
