Western Mustangs women’s basketball player Kelsey Wright has been selected as one of 12 students from around the world to participate in the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Young Reporters Program at the Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia.
Members of the Young Reporters program will be on-site in Kazan filing stories and receiving hands-on experience in covering a major international sporting event as well as interacting with colleagues from around the world. In addition to covering the Universiade, Wright will be chronicling her time in Russia in a blog for westernmustangs.ca.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity,” said Wright. “To be able to give back and experience something completely different than I am used to is an opportunity of a lifetime; truly a dream come true. This is going to be such an amazing trip to learn and grow as a journalist.”
Wright is currently enrolled in a Masters of Journalism program at Western and joins the Mustangs for the 2013-14 season after spending the past four seasons with the Ryerson Rams.
The 2013 Summer Universiade kicks off later this week and runs from July 6-17 in Kazan, Russia.
