In 1995, Western formalized its first-ever strategic plan, Leadership in Learning. That was followed by Making Choices: Western’s Commitments as a Research-intensive University in 2001 and, most recently, Engaging the Future in 2007, which was updated in 2010. The time has come to renew the Strategic Plan to ensure Western’s mission, vision, principles and priorities reflect the current context, opportunities and challenges facing the university today and into the foreseeable future.
In fall 2012, Western’s Senate Committee on University Planning (SCUP) was tasked with facilitating the strategic plan renewal process. From November 2012 through March 2013, SCUP solicited, listened to and received written input from hundreds of faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members, as well as dozens of key stakeholder groups on campus and in the external community. That initial input shaped the development of a first draft of a new Strategic Plan, Going Global: Achieving Excellence on the World Stage.
In June, that document was shared for review and comment with SCUP, Senate, Board of Governors, deans, members of senior administration and the leadership of Western’s Alumni Association. Feedback gathered on the first draft informed development of a second draft of Going Global, which is now available to the Western community (Western user name and password is required) for review and comment.
When submitting your written comments on Going Global, please include your name, affiliation to Western (faculty, staff or student) and email address. All comments received by Friday, Sept. 20, will help inform development of a third draft of Going Global which will be presented to Western’s Senate and Board of Governors in November 2013 for final review and comment.
