Western Law professor Stephen Pitel has been named one of Ontario’s most outstanding university teachers by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA). Pitel will receive a 2012-2013 OCUFA Teaching Award at Sept. 28 ceremony in Toronto.
“As noted by his nominators, professor Pitel’s work has transformed legal education at Western and across Ontario,” said Kate Lawson, OCUFA president. “He has pioneered the teaching of ethics and professionalism, ensuring that Ontario’s young lawyers understand their responsibilities and professional obligations. This contribution, coupled with his teaching prowess, makes him a perfect choice for an OCUFA teaching award.”
Other OCUFA Teaching Award recipients include: Catherine Bruce, Trent University; Richard Caron, University of Windsor; Brent E. Faught, Brock University; Lorraine Janzen Kooistra, Ryerson University; and Susan Vajoczki, McMaster University.
“Every day, Ontario’s professors make incredible things happen in our classrooms and labs,” Lawson continued. “This year’s winners exemplify the commitment, passion, and dedication to student success that produce outstanding learning across the province.”
Founded in 1964, OCUFA represents 17,000 faculty and academic librarians in 27 faculty associations across Ontario. It has been celebrating outstanding achievement in teaching and academic librarianship at Ontario universities since 1973.
