Prospective graduate students looking to further their studies at Western were greeted by a new – and improved – in-house application process on Monday, Oct. 7, the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) announced.
The change comes after two years of data collection, soliciting input from the entire graduate community as well as relentless field testing.
Previously, Western used an Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC)-based system. Under that process, potential graduate students applied online through OUAC and then provided hardcopy documents to the specific graduate program for assessment.
Under the new system, SGPS handles electronically all collection and distribution of application materials to graduate programs.
“The new application will now supply Western with a method to effectively collect, communicate and process graduate applications from initial contact with the student through admissions decision,” said Teri Hern, manager, Graduate Admissions. “It’s an exciting change for the better for the university.”
