When Carolyn Young, director of Western Continuing Studies, served as the marketing director of Western Retail Services nearly a decade ago, she initiated a ‘Friday Jeans Day.’ Bookstore staff paid $2 each for every casual Friday; proceeds were directed to Reforest London. Graphic Services adopted her concept after moving to its new location off of Western Road in 2006. The money they collected over the following seven years was used to beautify the front of the new building with two Kentucky Coffee trees, planted last year.
“The Graphic Services team is proud to work on a campus that Jim (Galbraith, manager, Landscape Services & Waste Management) and his staff keep looking beautiful. After all, we are part of the Forest City,” said Bruce Maslen, assistant director of Graphic Services.
Here, Maslen, far right, joins, from left, Kathy Russell, Patty Killough and Steve Byers, all of Graphic Services, as they admire one of the young trees. Others involved in the funding and planning, though not pictured, include Karen Adam, Steve Alb, Joan Burrell, Louise Gadbois, Georgia Gibbs, Kelly Hunt and Pam Kenward.
