Chemical and Biochemical Engineering professor Argyrios Margaritis was invited by the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Division of Medical Sciences, to present a seminar entitled, The use of Biopolymer Nanoparticles for the Encapsulation and Controlled Release of Anti-Cancer Drugs. The school of Medicine is housed at two campuses – Laurentian University, in Sudbury, and Lakehead University, in North Bay. The seminar took place in Sudbury with direct video conference connection to participating medical students and faculty at Lakehead.
Margaritis emphasized the role of basic research in nanotechnology drug delivery and potential medical applications. He also visited the research laboratories in the departments of Biochemistry and Microbiology and had further discussions with faculty and students for potential research collaboration in nanoparticle drug delivery. Many Northern Ontario School of Medicine graduates choose to practice medicine in Northern Ontario.
