It was quite the season for Mustangs football, with the team making its record-breaking 14th appearance in the Vanier Cup last month. While Western lost to Laval Rouge et Or in the national championship game, their play made a few bold, national statements along the way this season.
The team completed the regular season undefeated for the second consecutive year. They also extended their consecutive winning streak to 23 games, an OUA record and one short of the all-time record set by Laval. Running back Cedric Joseph led all USports athletes with 12 rushing touchdowns this season, averaging 120.6 yards per game. Following their Yates Cup and Mitchell Bowl wins, Coach Greg Marshall was named Canadian U-Sports Coach of the Year. Three players were named first-team all-stars and three were named second-team all-stars.
