The Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging (CCAA) is offering workshops in London and Ottawa for professionals working with aging adults.
CCAA, located at The University of Western Ontario, is offering two workshops in both cities in September and October. The Functional Fitness for Older Adult workshop will be held Sept. 15-16 in London and Oct. 26-27 in Ottawa. The Restorative Care Education Training workshop will be held Sept. 15-16, 29-30 in London and Oct. 26-29 in Ottawa.
The goal of restorative care is to provide residents in long-term care facilities with the best quality of life possible and promote the highest level of functioning that the resident can attain. This may be achieved through walking, exercise, feeding/eating programs or through communication and social interaction between staff and residents.
Functional Fitness for Older Adults is based on research conducted at CCAA with frail older adults. The exercises are designed to improve the functional abilities of older adults and to promote their independence for activities of daily living.
These education courses are recognized by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
