The Senate approved a policy to balance individual rights of HIV positive individuals with a safe community for all city residents.
The policy included keeping the HIV-status of individuals confidential and making invalid the firing of an employee perceived to have the disease.
· The Mustangs wrestling team competed in the Ontario Universities Athletic Association championship, winning the championship title for the first time since 1979. Coach Ray Takahashi was named Ontario Wrestling Coach of the Year.
· USC’s President-Elect Steve Deighton has some promises to keep from his campaign. Deighton wants a more positive, cooperative council and better city-university relations. Weekly appearances on CHRW radio were to promote his platform of “open and accountable”.
· Ground was broken for a $10.3-million Elborn College expansion. The expansion would allow for increased enrollment in three departments including the Department of Communicative Disorders and the Department of Physical Therapy.
· John Cartwright, Political Science and Barbara Bain, Zoology, opposed expansion of parking lots, citing environmental consequences and a “general pattern of uglification” as deterrents.
