In the spirit of Earth Day on April 22, Physical Plant & Capital Planning Services is encouraging The University of Western Ontario community to pitch in to clean up the campus on Friday, April 17, during the Clean Campus event.
“I think most members of our community take great pride in our campus and are willing to chip in to do their part,” says Jim Galbraith, supervisor for waste and recycling management.
He feels the nearly 4,000 staff and faculty on campus could put a substantial dent in the amount of litter around the university by picking up just one piece of trash on their way into work.
In further support of the Clean Campus event, Physical Plant will supply organized groups with trash bags and gloves.
“Last year, a number of departments came down and picked up the supplies to conduct cleanups around their buildings,” says Galbraith. “We’d like to continue to provide that support and hope to see more units take that initiative.”
As with every spring, retreating snow has revealed the unattractive litter throughout our campus. Some of the garbage left behind may be too heavy, awkward or unsafe to remove. Galbraith reminds participants to be cautious, use common sense and contact Physical Plant (ppdhelp@uwo.ca) if assistance is needed.
