The University of Western Ontario will conduct an emergency training exercise (Harmony 4) on campus Wednesday, May 6, beginning at about 8:30 a.m.
Parking and driving on campus during the morning will be affected.
The mock emergency, run in conjunction with the London Fire Department, will involve Western’s HazMat and Confined Space Team, who will be in full gear.
While one segment of the exercise will be carried out in the former Support Services Building at the corner of Lambton and Huron Drives, members of the Western community are advised the exercise will encompass other areas on campus, to a lesser degree.
Philip Aziz Drive and Huron Drive (Sarnia Road entrance to campus) will not be accessible from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
Parking Services has made alternative parking arrangements for regular users of the Huron parking lot, which will also be closed from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
Alternative parking is arranged at the Springett, Elborn and Althouse lots.
The exercise will involve a number of on-campus groups including:
• Campus Community Police Service
• Student Emergency Response Team (SERT)
• Fire Safety and Emergency Management
• HazMat Team
• Emergency Response Team
• Emergency Operations Control Group
As part of the exercise, emergency responders will be testing communications tools that Western would use in case of a real-life, real-time emergency.
Planned testing of mass notifications will be distributed to the Western community during the morning of May 6 via the Western home page, e-mail and the main telephone switchboard.
