A memorial service will be held June 6 to honour Joan Mason-Grant, an assistant professor in the Department of Social Justice and Peace Studies at King’s University College. The service will be held at 1 p.m. in Labatt Hall at King’s.
A contributor to London’s activist community, she inspired students in Women’s Studies and Social Justice & Peace Studies. She wrote a book about pornography and worked extensively on food security issues.
Mason-Grant died May 21 following a year-long bout of cancer.
Mason-Grant is survived by husband Martin, son Jay (Leanne) of Hamilton, son Corey, niece Whitney Linell, grandson Wallace and granddaughter Josephine Liston, as well as by father Lowell B. (Jerry) Mason and stepmother Betty of Michigan, and brother John Mason (Patti), also of Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a fund established in her memory to facilitate experiential learning for SJPS students at Kings. Alternatively, in her memory, commit to reducing your carbon footprint in a specific, measurable way, or become active in righting a social wrong.
