STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. – News media reports say a bus carrying a semi-pro football team from Canada crashed on I-69 in Steuben County near Fort Wayne, Indiana, in the morning on June 21.
According to officials in the reports, the bus carried players and coaches from the London Silverbacks football team and collided with an SUV that crossed over the median.
However, no Western Mustangs student-athletes or coaches are believed to be involved in the crash.
The Greyhound bus involved in the crash is one of two buses in the fleet wrapped with photos and branding for the Western Mustangs athletics department.
The driver of the SUV is dead, according to the Angola Fire Department. Passengers on the bus from the London Silverbacks were returning home, travelling northbound on I-69, after a football game against the Indianapolis Tornadoes on June 20, sources say.
In addition, officials commented in the reports that some of the passengers on the London Silverbacks bus sustained injuries and were transported to the Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in Angola.
Western’s associate vice-president of communications and public affairs Helen Connell expressed the university’s concern and best wishes for those passengers involved in the crash and for their families.
