The Centre for Catholic-Jewish Learning (CCJL) is planning events in honour of Holocaust Education Week between November 1-10 at King’s University College.
This initiative is being organized by members of Hillel Western, the King’s University College Students Council, and student representatives of the CCJL.
The following events are planned:
* Holocaust Education Display: Located in the foyer of Cardinal Carter Library, this display features a group of memoirs published by the Azrieli Foundation. The program was initiated in order to preserve, publish and share the written memoirs of Holocaust Survivors.
All of the memoirs are first hand accounts written by survivors who immigrated to Canada and reflect a wide diversity of experiences, geographic locations, perspectives and writing styles.
* Healing Voices: Scheduled for Nov. 3, 5:30 p.m., in the Student Lounge Extension of the Wemple Building, the documentary follows two Holocaust survivors to Germany and Poland with a diverse group of students and is produced and directed by Riva Finkelstein.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion, “How will the Holocaust be remembered by the Next Generation?” moderated by Dr. Darren Marks, assistant professor of Theology and Jewish Studies. Kosher refreshments will be provided following the screening and discussion. Admission is free and all are welcome.
* Roaming Holocaust Education Display: Located in the Foyer of Labatt Hall on Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., this roaming display will feature poster-boards and a video screening of ‘Perpetrators-Bystanders-Victims (Yesterdae).’ The display will also spend some time at Fanshawe College, Brescia University College and Western.
