The University of Western Ontario has been in negotiations with
UWOFA-LA (Librarians and Archivists) since May working to renew the
group’s first contract, which ended July 1.

In celebration of 45 years of men’s hockey at The University of
Western Ontario, the Mustangs men’s hockey team held the inaugural
Western Mustangs Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, Oct.
24 at the Greek Canadian Club.

Western Mustangs quarterback Michael Faulds not only led his team
to a 47-0 win over the University of Toronto Saturday afternoon,
but also became the all-time CIS career passing leader.

As The University of Western Ontario’s 10th president, Amit Chakma
encourages graduates to carve a place in the world and be adaptable
to a changing environment and a broadening community.

Research Western has introduced a new grant to support scholarly
research at the undergraduate level at Western in the areas of
human rights, social justice, genocide and related issues.

Harvard professor, Dr. Richard Losick, will give a free public
lecture on the biology of bacterium for the Gairdner Lecture on
Monday, Oct. 26 at The University of Western Ontario.

Dr. Cecil Rorabeck encouraged University of Western Ontario
graduates to dig in to life’s buffet during his convocation address
on Friday, Oct. 23.

Nominations for the 2010 Western Award of Excellence are now open.

The university has published two new reports on employment equity,
one highlighting Western’s progress on equity-related issues during
the 2008-09 academic year, the other pointing the way forward to
improving employment equity on campus.

As stress levels from exams and mid-terms increase in December, so
does the rate of university students experiencing symptoms of
depression, says scientist Paul Tremblay.

Dean Carol Herbert, of the Schulich School of Medicine &
Dentistry at The University of Western Ontario, has been elected to
Foreign Associate membership in the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of
the National Academies.
