The 2010 Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey (CGPSS) was launched on Feb. 22, giving graduate students at universities across the country an opportunity to help improve educational experiences for students of today and tomorrow. All graduate and professional school students (excluding MBA) at Western received an email invitation to complete the survey, which takes approximately 30 minutes.
Spearheaded by Marty England, Senior Policy Advisor to the President at Western, the CGPSS was first conducted in 2005 and is designed to gain insight into the experience of students at various universities across Canada. This year, more than 125,000 students across the country have been invited to participate.
“Western, along with other universities across the country, is significantly expanding graduate enrollment at this point in time. It’s particularly important that we monitor the quality of the graduate student experience during a period of rapid expansion,” says Linda Miller, Vice-Provost (Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies).
The results from this year’s survey will be compared with those from the first two surveys (2005, 2007) to gauge progress and continue enhancement of graduate and professional education at Western and across Canada. Responses from the first two surveys have assisted university leaders in developing enhanced programming for students in areas such as:
– Professional skills development
– Financial support
– Research experience
– University resources and student life
Participation in the survey is voluntary, confidential, and has no effect on academic status.
Reminder emails will be sent over the next couple of weeks to those graduate students who have not yet responded.
