A study of eight post-secondary institutions in Southwestern Ontario is exploring students’ experiences on being recruited for research studies. The researchers are interested in finding out how students at all levels and in all programs feel about how they were recruited for research studies, the incentives that were offered for participating and related matters. Participation involves completion of a 15-minute online survey on a secure website. Retirement plan meetings
Retirement plan members and spouses are invited to information sessions for reviewing 2009 investment results and responding to questions. The April 28 session also features a presentation on selecting a financial advisor by Graydon Watters of the Financial Education Institute of Canada. The sessions take place in University College, Room 142: April 22, 12–1:30 p.m.; April 28, 7–9 p.m.; and April 30, 12–1:30 p.m. They are free and registration is not required but room capacity is limited. Representatives will be available to answer questions after the formal presentation. Attendees are encouraged to submit questions in advance to Martin Bélanger, Director, Investments, mbelang7@uwo.ca.

The Canadian Medical Association Journal identifies Western and Memorial University as leaders in Canada in incorporating technology into medical schools, in particular electronic medical records. According to the Journal, some medical educators are concerned new technologies are not being adopted fast enough.

Mustangs tops in badminton
The Western Mustangs captured the gold medal at the Canadian University and Colleges badminton championships hosted by Laval University on March 20 and 21. The Mustangs beat the University of Montreal by a 3-1 score to claim Canadian badminton supremacy. Martin Giuffre, Jenn Lam and Alexandra Bruce won gold medals and will represent Canada and Western at the 2011 World University games in China. Thomas new men’s rugby coach
Steve Thomas is the new head coach of the men’s rugby program. Thomas served as an assistant with Tony Roes for the past two seasons. A rugby player in the UK at school and club levels, Thomas has coached at the youth and senior level in Canada and overseas, and has his level 1 refereeing certification in the UK and level 2 in Canada.
