The annual Staff and Leaders’ Conference at The University of Western Ontario was applauded by the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO) for quality and productivity.
Last week, Gitta Kulczycki, vice-president (resources & operations), attended the event, along with Nancy Stewart, Human Resources facilitator/coordinator, learning and development services, who was on hand to pick up the Ontario Regional Winner award on behalf of the conference organizers.
Since 2003, Western has held the annual staff and leaders’ conference in February during Reading Week. On average, 1,100 staff and leaders per year attend, from a total of 2,400 full-time employees. The three-day sessions includes more than 30 sessions.
CAUBO promotes the professional and effective delivery of services and administration of resources across higher education. The annual awards program recognizes the introduction of new services, improvement in the quality of services, and the management of human, financial, and physical resources.
Western also received honorable mention for the live burn and fire safety video.
In a joint project between Fire Safety, Physical Plant, and the Department of Housing, Western implemented a ‘live burn’ simulation on the first day of school to promote fire safety using a stand-alone student bedroom. As well, a student from Western’s Faculty of Information and Media Studies created a fire safety video using footage from the first live burn in 2008.
