Quentin Playfair and David Tamblyn will give a presentation Sept. 10 in the Don Wright Faculty of Music Building (Room 345) focusing on maintenance and repairs of string instruments and bows.
Playfair will give a workshop on instruments from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. while Tamblyn will give a presentation on bows from 3 to 5pm. Each will also discuss how to keep your instrument in the best condition possible.
This annual string care lecture is mandatory for any students who plan to apply for the string bank instruments or bows for the 2011/12 school year.
Playing a good instrument can make a huge difference in a young musician’s progress and can expand a player’s imagination of tone production and tone colour. Western’s String Bank is a collection of over 40 fine instruments and bows for select violin, viola, cello and bass students. There are Italian, French and English instruments and bows, all carefully maintained by expert artisans.
