The D.B. Weldon Library will be closed from Saturday, Aug. 4-Sunday, Aug. 12 in order to upgrade the electrical system of the 40-year-old building.
Materials in Weldon as well as electronic document delivery and retrievals from storage will not be available; requests for items in Weldon (holds) will be delayed. Western Libraries digital resources will be available, including e-books, e-journals and online databases.
Students and faculty requiring physical materials from Weldon or storage for their course(s) and research are encouraged to allow sufficient time to retrieve them before Friday, Aug. 3.
“We realize this may be an inconvenience for Western summer students and faculty members, but the extensive nature of the work requires a shutdown during the construction period. Our library staff is working to minimize the impact and we encourage library users to visit the Western Libraries website for a series of questions and answers about the temporary closure,” said Catherine Wilkins, Weldon assistant university librarian.
As this campus building enters its fifth decade of service, this electrical tune-up is required to effectively meet the needs of students and faculty for the next 40 years, Wilkins said.
