Western staff, students and alumni have been in the limelight – or in the case of rower Lesley Thompson-Willie (BA’82, BEd’83) the silver light – at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.
Coxswain Thompson-Willie pushed the women’s eight to a silver medal win. This was the seventh time the 52-year old rowing legend has competed in the Olympics and the fifth time she walked away with a medal.
Swimmer and Mustangs assistant swim coach Richard Hortness came in fifth in the men’s 4x100m relay, while graduate student Joe Bartoch came in eighth place.
Former Mustangs badminton star Alexandra Bruce, and her partner Michelle Li, just missed the bronze medal after being defeated by Russia in women’s doubles action.
