Basketball player Quinn Henderson and track athlete Brenna Thomson have been named the Western Mustangs Goodlife Fitness Athletes of the Week for Jan. 28-Feb. 3.
Henderson, a third-year Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies (BMOS) student, led the Mustangs in scoring in both their games last week racking up 14 points against Brock and 22 versus Guelph. In Saturday’s win against the Gryphons Henderson scored a three pointer at the buzzer to propel the Mustangs to a 71-68 victory.
“Quinn showed why he is our captain this past week with his inspired and outstanding play against both Brock and Guelph,” said head coach Brad Campbell.
Thomson, a fourth-year BMOS student, broke Jessica Zelinka’s 12-year-old Western record in the 300m running a time of 39.06 seconds to take second place at the 18th Annual McGill Team Challenge. Thomson also set another Mustangs record, running the fastest ever opening leg of the 4X200m in 24.3 seconds, helping the team take first place in the event.
“Brenna has always been one of our strongest sprinters but she has stepped into a new league this year,” said head coach Vickie Croley. “The fact that she is managing to stay healthy is helping her to better and more consistent performances. She is now a confident sprinter who will continue to improve as the season goes on.”
