Classroom skills and strategies take centre stage today as the Spring Perspectives on Teaching Conference, presented by the Teaching Support Centre, kicks off this morning.
The keynote session will feature Tricia A. Seifert, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. Her lecture, Connecting high-impact practices with deep learning, will draw from research done on high-impact practices (first-year seminars, learning communities, common intellectual experiences, service-learning, internships) and her work on the mechanisms within those practices that contribute to deep student learning.
The keynote lecture is scheduled for 9:15-10:30 a.m. in Social Science Centre (SSC), room 2050
Seifert will also join the event’s closing session, a panel discussion with deans and associate deans entitled, High-impact educational practices across the faculties. Joining the panel are Joan Finegan, Faculty of Social Science associate dean (academic); Jeff Hutter, Faculty of Science associate dean (academic); Michael Milde, Faculty of Arts & Humanities dean; and Betty Anne Younker, Don Wright Faculty of Music dean. The session will include the opportunity for discussion between the panel, Seifert and session attendees.
The closing session is scheduled for 2:30-4 p.m. in SSC, room 2050.
