Cecilia Siu-Wei Yau, a highly accomplished Asian business leader and founder of Macia Company Limited, is being honoured with a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LLD) at Western University’s Hong Kong Convocation, Sunday, May 25.
Macia is a manufacturer and exporter of premium quality leather, silk and satin products with clientele covering all major countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Yau is also a respected philanthropist who has been steadfast in supporting educational opportunities for others and has been a committed volunteer with the Hong Kong Children’s Cancer Foundation.
A member of Western’s Hong Kong Advisory Board, she was instrumental in establishing the Hong Kong Alumni Awards of Merit and the 125th Anniversary Hong Kong Student Award.
In addition to this honorary degree, she holds an honors bachelor’s degree in Geography from Western.
Since 2004, Western has conducted Convocation in Hong Kong. This year’s event takes place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The Ivey Business School (Asia) graduates their eligible EMBA students – and this year’s ceremony also includes students from Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies, the faculties of Health Science, Science, Social Science, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Huron University College and King’s University College.
Students who have not yet received their degrees in London experience a full Convocation ceremony that includes crossing the stage and being hooded by a faculty member in Hong Kong. Students who have received their degree certificate in London can still join the Hong Kong Convocation and receive a distinctive Certificate of Participation.
