Time to show your pride, Western.
For the first time, Western will have a unified presence in the Pride London Festival parade, taking place 12:30 p.m. Sunday, July 27 in downtown London.
Throughout this event’s 20-year history, many Western campus members and groups – Western Queer Caucus, PrideWestern, Women’s Studies Student Collective, Pride Library, Department of Women’s Studies and Feminist Research – have participated. This year, however, Western faculty, staff, students and alumni will join together to form a ‘Purple Wave’ and walk in the parade as member of a single Western contingent. Everyone is welcome to participate.
Women’s Studies and Feminist Research professor Wendy Pearson and French Studies professor Mario Longtin are co-organizers of the Western group.
“The celebration of diversity is something the Western community works toward achieving and London’s Pride Parade and Festival provide an opportunity for campus members to show their support for recognizing the importance of diversity,” Pearson said. “Even if you are unable to participate we encourage you to stand along the parade route and cheer on Western friends, peers, and colleagues.”
As a sponsor of the Pride London Festival, Western will have an information booth in Victoria Park during the outdoor festival, July 25-27.
