Baseball player Nolan Anderson and softball player Stacie Cox have been named the Western Mustangs Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sept. 22.
Anderson, a third-year Business student from London, helped the Mustangs go 3-1 in weekend action with wins over Brock and York. The shortstop went 5-14 with four runs, five RBI and five walks over four games, most impressive however, was his performance in Sunday’s second game against the York Lions. Anderson came on in relief late in the game, retiring all five batters he faced before hitting a walk-off two-run home run in extra innings to give the Mustangs a 7-5 win as well as picking up a ‘W’ for himself as the game’s winning pitcher.
Cox, a fourth-year King’s University College student from London, had a stellar weekend to help lead the Purple and White to four wins with victories over Brock and McMaster. Cox started the weekend strong, throwing a one-hit shutout against the Badgers before returning to the pitcher’s circle the next day and throwing another gem, this time pitching a seven strikeout no-hitter against the Marauders.
