On Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 22-23, Facilities Management will remove the two information kiosks standing near the Western Road and Richmond Street entrances to the university. Concerns about the safety of the two structures were confirmed last week, when staff inspected, closed and boarded up the door of one due to structural concerns with the roof.
“Both kiosks are in a poor state of repair,” said Lynn Logan, Associate Vice-President (Finance & Facilities). “Staff’s advice was they should come down – they are simply not worth repairing.”
Facilities Management plans to incorporate new signage and way finding, as well as landscaping improvements, into the areas in the near future.
In other campus construction updates:
- Lambton Drive will be closed for a week beginning as early as Monday, Aug. 24 (subject to weather). A crane will be planted on the roadway, lifting large, steel girders to support the overhanging entrance of the new academic building. Motorists are encouraged to find alternative routes through or around campus. Alternative bus routes will be posted on the London Transit Commission (LTC) website;
- Work has begun on the Elgin Drive for resurfacing and will lead to rotating single-lane closures and rerouting of city buses until the end of the week. Motorists are encouraged to find alternative routes through or around campus. Alternative bus routes are posted on the LTC website.
