Some large projects came to fruition with the opening or re-opening of several buildings. They included the renewal, inside and out, of University College, an iconic focal point of campus. Expanded and more functional, it now offers better student-oriented space in heritage features updated with modern amenities.
A $5-million gift from Western Chancellor Jack Cowin gave the Amit Chakma Engineering Building a name as it began welcoming students into a more collaborative, innovative research environment built for both the present and the future.
The music building – with its additional performance, classrooms and practice areas – opened to literal fanfare at the Don Wright School of Music during Homecoming weekend.
The new Western Interdisciplinary Research Building, a seven-storey facility, brings together two major groups – the Research Cluster for Cognitive Neuroscience and the Rotman Institute of Philosophy – with classroom space, research facilities and room to grow as needed.
