More than 60 First Nations Directors of Education and other Aboriginal educational leaders from across Canada will be meeting at Western’s Althouse Faculty of Education Building (Room 2038) for two full days (Aug. 21 and 22).
The working conference, organized by the Indigenous Education Coalition in partnership with the faculty, features a wide range of speakers offering general sessions and specific workshops on a number of topics relevant to First Nations educational authorities, including professional development sessions on funding and budget issues, First Nations student success, and human resource policies and practices.
Included among the presenters are leading educators in the Indigenous community, members of Western’s Faculty of Education and members of the Master of Education Leadership program offered at Walpole Island by Western.
“The purpose of this training and education conference is to share knowledge with and bring inspiration to leaders in education in First Nations communities,” says Bruce Stonefish, Executive Director of the Indigenous Education Coalition.
