The University of Western Ontario Mustangs badminton team captured silver at the annual Canadian university and college national championships held in Richmond, B.C. on May 15-17.
Jenn Lam won individual gold medals in women’s singles and women’s doubles, while Alex Bruce garnered three medals, two gold and one silver, winning the women’s doubles gold with Lam and mixed doubles gold with Peter Butler, and finishing with silver in women’s singles.

Western lost both of their matches to eventual champion Douglas College 4-1, including the gold-medal match. Lam was victorious in both meetings with Douglas College.
The Mustangs beat BCAA 5-0 in their opening match and defeated Laval 3-2 in the final round-robin match, winning ladies singles, ladies doubles and mixed doubles to advance to the championship against Douglas College.
“Overall, we had pretty decent results,” said coach Rob Fowler. “We played some very tough matches that our players played extremely well in, but just came out on the short end of the stick.”
