The University of Western Ontario has appointed Andrew N. Hrymak to a five-year term as dean of the Faculty of Engineering beginning July 1.
Hrymak is professor and chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering at McMaster University and has served as Director of the Walter G. Booth School of Engineering Practice and of the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute. He has also been active in university-level strategic planning.

The unanimous choice of a Senate selection committee that included faculty and students from Engineering and across the university, Hrymak holds a B.Eng. degree from McMaster and a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University.
Hrymak has a strong record of teaching, research, and industrial collaboration. His principal areas of specialization are polymer and materials processing, computational fluid dynamics, and process design and simulation.
“He has already achieved an impressive record as a scholar and as an academic leader at McMaster University,” says Provost and Vice-President (Academic) Fred Longstaffe, Chair of the Selection Committee. “His expertise and creativity will prove of tremendous value to the faculty and to Western.”
