The University of Western Ontario community is encouraged to follow the expedition of engineering student Daniel Hammond, who departs today (Feb. 13) for Antarctica to learn about environmental issues and climate change.
Hammond is one of about 70 students from around the world accepted to take part in the International Polar Year Antarctic University Expedition 2009, taking place Feb. 13-28. The two-week expedition is a ship-based field course that provides students with hands-on research activities and lectures, taught by 19 polar experts, educators and researchers.
The expedition is part of the annual Students on Ice program, a unique initiative dedicated to taking students from around the world on learning expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica.
Photos and information will be updated daily on the expedition website www.uantarctic.org/index.htm.
