The University of Western Ontario Faculty Association (UWOFA-LA), representing 49 Librarians and Archivists at Western, will hold a strike vote Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 21-22.
Holding a strike vote is a step commonly taken in the collective bargaining process. A successful strike vote does not necessarily mean there will be a strike; it would put UWOFA-LA in a position to call a strike without further consultation with its members if the Ontario Ministry of Labour issues a ‘no board’ report. Both UWOFA-LA and the university can request a ‘no board’ report be issued as part of the conciliation process.
Information on the collective bargaining process can be found at the Collective Bargaining FAQs page.
Bargaining continues through October. A Ministry of Labour conciliator, appointed to assist in the negotiations, will attend on Oct. 27 and 30.
Western’s contract with UWOFA-LA expired June 30, and negotiations to date have resulted in tentative agreement on a number of issues. The university looks forward to achieving a fair and responsible agreement.
