Declan Hill, an investigative journalist with extensive expertise in the area of globalized sports corruption, will deliver a public lecture at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 in Western’s Faculty of Law Moot Court Room in the Josephine Spencer Niblett Building.
Hill’s lecture, The Coming Destruction of Sports: How the Asian Gambling Market will Kill Canadian Sports, is part of Western Law’s Distinguished Speaker series.
Hill, who specializes in the study of organized crime and international issues, famously broke the story of match-fixing gangs destroying international soccer in his book, The Fix: Soccer and Organized Crime. It has since become a best-seller in 20 languages. His next book, The Insider’s Guide to Football Corruption, is an adaptation of his doctoral thesis from the University of Oxford. It will be released in October 2013.
